Home Base

2281 East Forest Avenue

Detroit, MI 48201

A few years ago, Detroit Love purchased the Dom Polski Building, a historic Polish community center to serve as our home base.  The Dom Polski building was built in 1913 by Joseph G. Kastler.   Our goal is to restore this amazing building, to its original purpose: a community center for our neighborhood.

The Kitchen

Currently, our kitchen is located on the second floor, across from our girls' bunk room.  We have two refrigerators, one electric oven and dishwasher.  In attempts to utilize as many environmentally friendly practices as possible, we utilize washable plates and cups for our groups.  Eventually, once our renovations are complete, the kitchen will move down two levels and this room will become the boys' bunk room.  For now, we will enjoy the beautiful view through our second story windows!

Boys' Bunk Room

The boys' bunk room consists of 21 bunk beds (7 sets of 3 levels of bunks), each with a mattress.  For sleeping, participants should bring either a sleeping bag and pillow or flat and fitted sheet, blanket, and pillow.  The room is air conditioned, although the temperature can be inconsistent.

Girls' Bunk Room

The girls' bunk room consists of 21 bunk beds (7 sets of 3 levels of bunks), each with a mattress.  For sleeping, participants should bring either a sleeping bag and pillow or flat and fitted sheet, blanket, and pillow.  The room is air conditioned, although the temperature can be inconsistent.  It never hurts to have a couple of fans with you.

Bathrooms & Showers

Our buildings is constantly under renovation. Currently, there are two showers and two bathrooms located downstairs for our male participants and one shower and two toilet stalls for our female participants. Depending on the guy to girl ratio, we may close down the boys' showers to the boys for a period of time, to allow the girls some extra shower space.  The bathroom pictured here, is the girls' bathroom.

The Stage: Our Group Meeting Area

For group meeting times, we meet on the original stage of the Dom Polski building.  Our stage hosts times of intimate worship, faith building devotionals, and energizing daily debriefs.  Currently, we eat our meals at tables set out on auditorium floor.  This area is not air conditioned and can get quite warm-so be prepared!
